PWHPA announces “Dream Gap Tour”

A four-team tournament will stop in three North American cities

The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association announced a multi-city four-team tournament, starting in Toronto on Sept. 20 - 22. The tour will continue to Hudson, New Hampshire on Oct. 4 - 6 before heading to Chicago on Oct. 18 - 20.

The weekends will include youth clinics in addition to the four-game tournament which will have a “market champion,” according to their release.

According to AP, about 80 players will split into four teams, playing three round-robin games plus a championship game. Other stops could include Buffalo and Southern California. They also secured a a big name sponsor in Adidas plus backing from Billie Jean King Enterprises.

The PWHPA also announced two exhibition games. They’ll play Boston College on Sept. 21 at Conte Forum and San Jose Sharks alumni on Sept. 22 at SAP Center.

“This is a year of purpose for every member of the Players Association. Young hockey players - boys and girls - should be able to share a dream of one day making a living as a professional hockey player,” Kendall Coyne Schofield said in the press release. “That reality doesn’t exist today for girls. Together, we are on a mission to change that.”

Hilary Knight, Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Nurse, Natalie Spooner, Amanda Kessel, Monique Lamoureux-Morando, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, Brianna Decker, Noora Raty, and Renata Fast are all listed on the release as being at these events.

“I couldn’t be more honored and excited to participate in the Dream Gap Tour, kicking off in the city that I grew up playing in,” Jenner said in the release. “It’s time to close the Dream Gap.”
