PWHL Annonces First Roster Cuts

Tonight (Nov. 30), the PWHL announced the first round of roster cuts for all teams, following the established training camp timeline and before tomorrow’s opening of the first waiver window.

Every team reduced their roster to 27 players. That brings the league total down to 162 players from 187 original invites. Of the 25 players cut, 11 are eligible for the first waiver window, which runs from December 1-2, while 14 are waivers ineligible.

Players are ineligible for waivers if they received a contract offer during camp but declined it, or if they were drafted and didn’t show up for that team’s camp, or left camp without getting cut. Players granted a compassionate circumstance waiver for a specific market are also ineligible for waivers. All other players are eligible for waivers, and teams may contact them starting tomorrow to offer a contract. Any drafted player not claimed on waivers will remain on their original team’s protected list.

The 27-player rosters will remain in place until the conclusion of the pre-season evaluation camp in Utica, New York, which runs from Dec. 3-7. The second waiver period is from Dec. 8-10. Final rosters must be submitted by Dec. 11 and feature 23 players signed to standard contracts, and two signed to reserve contracts.

As for this round of cuts, New York had the most with six, while Boston and Toronto tied for the least with two. Below is a team-by-team breakdown of the players cut and their waiver eligibility.
