Moments: Marchment scores the first PHF goal in Canada
Whale forward Kennedy Marchment makes history, scores first PHF goal at the Six’s home barn
Today’s game between the Connecticut Whale and the Toronto Six marks the first time a PHF (or NWHL) game has been played in Canada. In other words, today’s game is the much-anticipated home-opener of the Toronto Six at Canlan Sports - York, which was sold out and reportedly has north of 1,200 fans in attendance.
The Six joined the PHF (then the NWHL) last season, but because the 2020-21 season was played in Lake Placid, New York. So, this season marks the first time the Six have “true” home games with Toronto fans in the stands.
After two periods, the Six are ahead 4-1, but the first PHF goal scored on Canadian soil — err, ice — belongs to Connecticut Whale forward Kennedy Marchment. Marchment drove to the net and deflected home a blast from Whale captain Shannon Turner at the 10:13 mark of the first to make a little bit of history.
And there it is: the first PHF goal scored in Canada.

Fittingly enough, both Marchment and Turner are Canadians from Ontario. Michela Cava of the Six answered back in the second period to score the first Six goal on home ice in franchise history and Brooke Boquist, Cava (again), and Mikyla Grant-Mentis added three more before the close of the second period.
