The Toronto Six have a home rink

Toronto will play their home games on an international ice surface

The Toronto Six officially have a home rink for the 2020-21 NWHL season.

The NWHL’s expansion team will play their home games at Canlan Ice Sports - York in North York, Ontario. Canlan Ice Sports has six rinks, including a rink with an international ice surface which has a seating capacity of 1,200 which is were the Six will play.

According to the league’s press release, the rink will have a locker room specifically built for the Six. It will also serve as the team’s practice facility and the building has a 4,000 square foot training facility.

It sounds like the Six’s home rink could very quickly become the envy of the rest of the NWHL.

From the league’s release:

“Our first priority in a home rink was finding somewhere fans across Toronto and the GTA could come to see the Six play,” President Digit Murphy said. “Canlan is in an accessible location with all the amenities we could’ve asked for and we can’t wait to step on the ice of our new arena and for the puck to drop signaling the start of season six.”

Canlan Ice Sports is also home to the York University men’s and women’s ice hockey teams.

The Six’s home at Canlan Ice Sports is level with the Minnesota Whitecaps’ TRIA Rink in St. Paul, Minnesota in seating capacity. The Connecticut Whale’s home rink in Danbury, Connecticut boasts the largest seating capacity of any NWHL home rink at 2,000 plus another 500 standing spectators. The Buffalo Beauts’ home rink, the Northtown Center at Amherst, is second in capacity at 1,400. Warrior Ice Arena, the home of the Boston Pride, can host 800 fans (including standing room) and the Riveters’ new rink has a seating capacity of 500.

As of yet, the Six do not have a head coach, but they have a team president, a general manager, and 18 players signed for the upcoming season.
