The second weekend of the NWHL season will feature a banner raising, the debut of the Lobster Lob, and four games!

Saturday, Oct. 12

Metropolitan Riveters at Minnesota Whitecaps - 2 p.m. central

The Whitecaps open their season at home, after being the only team to not play last weekend. They struggled against NCAA teams in exhibition play and have lost some significant names, so how they’ll look this year is anyone’s guess. But they’re still a fairly deep team with a core group of players who have played together for a while, a huge advantage this season.

While goaltender Sam Walther looked incredible last weekend against the Boston Pride, the rest of the team had some struggles. They continued to take too many penalties, and despite, killing off a big 5-on-3, let the Pride score two goals in less than a minute to win the game. Per the league, the Riveters will still be without veteran Kiira Dosdall but Kate Leary is joining the team.

Buffalo Beauts at Boston Pride - 6:30 p.m. eastern

Last weekend, Beauts goaltender Mariah Fujimagari faced 30 shots against the Connecticut Whale and still walked away with the win. That probably won’t hold up against the Pride so the Beauts defense needs to do a better job.

The Pride are coming off a strong game last weekend in New Jersey. Their home opener should provide some extra boost in their skates too, especially with the debut of the Lobster Lob. They added Emily Fluke during the week too, deepening their forwards corps.
