Team USA captures Worlds gold with overtime thriller

BECAUSE OF COURSE THE GOLD MEDAL GAME BETWEEN CANADA AND THE US WAS GOING TO GO TO OT. OF. COURSE.

*screams*

Well, THAT was a roller coaster.

Every time the US and Canada play, you can expect a stellar game, and this one did not disappoint.

You can relive all the glorious goals scored by both teams before OT here, but the tl;dr version is : Kacey Bellamy decided SHE was going to score all of USA’s goals because she was TIRED of Knight and Duggan and Kessel and Coyne hogging all the spotlight to themselves.

Meanwhile, Canada was like “Hey remember how you shut us out the first game LOL WE DON’T” and scored on their first shot thanks to a SNIPE by Meghan Agosta. Brianne Jenner scored an almost-not-goal in the third period to tie it up after Bellamy gave the USA the go-ahead goal. Originally waved off, the refs opened their eyes and realized it DID go in and then we were tied.

Jocelyne Larocque took an untimely penalty with just over two minutes to go, giving the US a chance to win it all on home soil in front of a sold out crowd of more than 3500 people, but NO, WE WANTED DRAMATICS, SO TO OVERTIME WE WENT.

Behold: the game-winner from Hilary Knight, because OF COURSE.

We’ll have more on the game later, including post-game quotes, but just enjoy the win if you’re American and *pats back* look ahead to the Olympics if you’re Canadian.
