The Minnesota Whitecaps announced on Tuesday that they’ve signed University of Minnesota forward Catie Skaja to a one-year contract for the upcoming season, valued at $35,000. Skaja recorded 114 points (45g-69a) over 160 games with the Golden Gophers, and was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team four times in five seasons.

“Having the privilege to continue my career professionally here in Minnesota is a dream. I wanted to stay close to home and have my family be there each weekend. I’m excited about it all,” Skaja was quoted as saying in the press release announcing her signing.

Skaja is the 14th player under contract for the Whitecaps ahead of Season 9, joining goaltenders Amanda Leveille and Chantal Burke; defenders Olivia Knowles, Amanda Boulier, Sidney Morin, and Maggie Flaherty; and forwards Ashleigh Brykaliuk, Liz Schepers, Anna Klein, Brittyn Fleming, Brooke Bryant, Claire Butorac, and Ronja Mogren.
