Weekend Recap: Jan. 19 - 20

Eight different Whitecaps scored on the weekend

NWHL

Sat. Jan. 19

Minnesota Whitecaps beat Connecticut Whale; 2 - 0

Goals

  • Whitecaps: Allie Thunstrom, Hannah Brandt
  • Whale: n/a/

Meeri Räisänen had herself a game, stopping 38 of the 40 shots she faced from the home team. Her team only got off 19 shots, which doesn’t necessary tell the tale of the Whale’s game. They had maybe their strongest outing, but against a tough Whitecaps team that’s hard to beat.

Sun. Jan. 20

Minnesota Whitecaps beat Connecticut Whale; 9 - 0

Goals

  • Whitecaps: Amanda Boulier, Kalli Funk, Jonna Curtis, Katie McGovern (2), Kate Schipper, Kendall Coyne Schofield (2), Allie Thunstrom
  • Whale: n/a/

Eek.... Räisänen came out of the game with an injury and that was the end for the Whale. Laura Brennan, their goalie coach who recently sign after a few roster moves, couldn’t withstand the Whitecaps and let in seven goals in the third period. The Whitecaps broadcast crew reported that Räisänen’s injury was a bruise calf and hopefully it’s not more serious.
