Team USA national team selection camp roster announced

Team USA released their roster of 42 players on Friday, which is the first step in selecting the national team that will eventually become the Olympic team.

Team USA took the first step in creating the 2018 Olympic roster on Friday when they announced the 42 players who were invited to the national team selection camp.

The full roster, which can be found here, consists of 20 players who also attended the 2013 selection camp (including Jessie Vetter, who we thought retired, but WHATEVER) and 14 players who have been on at least one Olympic roster.

There are 24 post-graduate players, 15 college players, and three high school players - Cayla Barnes, Grace Zumwinkle and Clair DeGeorge.

Per the USA Hockey press release on the selection camp:

The camp, which will consist of daily practices, off-ice testing, and three intrasquad scrimmages, will be be used to determine the U.S. Women's National Team roster that will train together and participate in various competitions in the build-up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

USA Hockey will unveil the players selected to the U.S. Women's National Team at the conclusion of the camp on May 5. The team will remain in Tampa for additional training through May 8.

The camp will run nine days, from April 30 to May 8, and it appears that USA Hockey will make a fairly rapid decision about which players will centralize with the team in Tampa after the camp has ended. Those chosen will remain in Tampa for more training.
