23 players, including 12 first-time Olympians will be representing the U.S. in Milano Cortina.

On Friday, Jan. 2, the athletes heading to Italy to represent the United States in women’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics were announced. The roster was presented on the Today Show by first-time Olympian Laila Edwards, alongside Jack Hughes, representing the men’s hockey team, and Declan Farmer, representing the sled hockey team.

The full 23-player roster for Team USA includes seven defenders, thirteen forwards, and three goaltenders. Familiar names like Hilary Knight, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Lee Stecklein, and Alex Carpenter are returning, as are breakout stars from the 2022 Olympics like Abbey Murphy and Caroline Harvey. Twelve players will be making their Olympic debuts, including Aerin Frankel, Joy Dunne, Taylor Heise, Gwyneth Philips, Tessa Janecke, and Haley Winn. The bulk of rostered players come to the national team from the PWHL, with the Minnesota Frost having the most representation, at six. Seven athletes are currently playing in the NCAA, with four from Wisconsin. 

There were very few surprises on this roster, which largely mirrors the US’s teams from the 2025 Women’s World Championships and the 2025 Rivalry Series. The only players who appeared on those teams who did not make the Olympic team were defenders Savannah Harmon and Anna Wilgren, and forwards Lacey Eden, Jesse Compher, Emma Peschel, Casey O’Brien, and Gabbie Hughes. Per Kyle Cushman, these players were the last cuts before the final roster. 

In milestones, the 2026 Milano Cortina Games will mark Hilary Knight’s fifth Olympic appearance, as well as her last. The 36-year-old has announced that she will be retiring from international competition after the Games, though she intends to continue club play in the PWHL. 

Team USA will first take the ice for a preliminary round game against Czechia on Feb. 5 at 4:40 AM local (10:40 AM ET) at Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena. The full roster can be found below.
