SB Nation’s NCAA Poll : Suboptimal Starts

This season is showing to be a real rollercoaster for some teams.

A few team would like to forget this weekend ever happened. Even with that there was little actual movement but margins shrank and there is little room for error going forward.

1. Wisconsin (6-0-0), 96 (6) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: W 6-0 v St. Cloud State (10/9), W 6-1 v St. Cloud State (10/10)
  • Coming Week: @ Minnesota-Duluth (10/15, 10/17)/

After cruising against the Huskies, Wisconsin will travel out to Duluth for an early test for both teams.

2. Ohio State (4-0-0), 9 (4) — Last poll: 3

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Bemidji State (10/15, 10/16)/

Ohio State had an actual week off but now have a pair of easy home games against Bemidji.

3. Northeastern (2-2-0), 64 — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: L 1-2 @ Boston University (10/8), L 0-3 @ Providence (10/9)
  • Coming Week: @ St. Anselm (10/13), @ Maine (10/16)/

The Huskies have had some bad weekends in their history, but with the expectations going in this might be one of the worst. After falling very flat against rival BU, it was thought they would have a wake up call and go after Providence, but instead fell even flatter. This week should see them have a pair of big wins but nothing seems certain right now.

4. Colgate (6-0-0), 62 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: W 3-0 @ Vermont (10/9), W 5-1 @ Vermont (10/10)
  • Coming Week: v Syracuse (10/14), @ Syracuse (10/16)/

The Raiders headed to Burlington and took home a pair of easy wins, up next is a pair against Syracuse.

5. Minnesota-Duluth (2-2-0), 61 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: L 1-3 v Minnesota (10/8), W 5-4 OT v Minnesota (10/9)
  • Coming Week: v Wisconsin (10/15, 10/17)/

Duluth was hoping for a bit more than a split with their home series against the Gophers. But it is better than some recent editions of the series. There will be no rest though as Wisconsin now comes to town.

6. Minnesota (1-3-0), 59 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: W 3-1 @ Minnesota-Duluth (10/8), L 4-5 OT @ Minnesota-Duluth (10/9)
  • Coming Week: v Minnesota State (10/15), @ Minnesota State (10/16)/

Minnesota finally got their win, and then lost the next day. This weekend brings Mankato which will be a bit easier than the last two weekends.

7. Princeton (0-0-0), 32 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games /

The Tigers haven’t played any game yet but the voters keep them in the poll.

8. Cornell (0-0-0), 27 — Last poll: 8

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Cornell will being play soon, for now they stay put.

9. Quinnipiac (6-0-0), 17 — Last poll: 10

  • Last week: W 4-3 v St. Anselm (10/8), W 5-0 v St. Anselm (10/9)
  • Coming Week: @ Providence (10/15, 10/16)/

This is the best start in program history which earns them this week’s ‘Belle’s of the Ball.’ The results weren’t exactly pretty, a one goal win over St. A’s is not a great scoreline, but a dominating win the next day alleviated some fears. Now they get a Providence team that just took out a top team.

10. Boston College (3-0-0), 15 — Last poll: 9

  • Last week: W 2-1 @ Merrimack (10/9)
  • Coming Week: v New Hampshire (10/15), @ New Hampshire (10/16)/

The Eagles would have liked a more dominant win over Merrimack, but a win is a win and now they get a UNH team that historically plays well against them.
