SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Consistent Content

We have had the same top ten all season but with conference play starting some shuffling is imminent.

Once again we have no new teams in the poll but this week we do have a little movement including a new top team.

1. Wisconsin (6-0-0), 124 (7) — Last Week: 2

• Last Week: W 4-2 v Minnesota-Duluth (10/13), W 3-1 v Minnesota-Duluth (10/14)

• Coming Week: v Princeton (10/20, 10/21)

The Badgers are looking like the team that has dominated the regular season in recent years as the mowed down a Duluth team that is in the hunt for home-ice in the NCAA tournament. Next up is a Princeton team in their season debut.

2. Clarkson (4-0-0), 121 (6) — Last Week: 1

• Last Week: W 6-3 v Montreal (EX) (10/13)

• Coming Week: @ St. Lawrence 10/20), v St. Lawrence (10/21)

The Golden Knights were essentially idle and dropped a bit in the polls. Up next is their annual home-and-home with arch rival St. Lawrence

3. Minnesota (5-0-1), 106 — Last Week: 3

• Last Week: W 6-2 v St. Cloud State (10/12), W 4-1 v St. Cloud State (10/13)

• Coming Week: v Ohio State (10/19, 10/20)

The Gophers are starting to find their groove this season taking care of the bottom of the WCHA. This weekend Minnesota plays host to the Buckeyes team that overtook them last year in a crucial pair of games.

4. Minnesota Duluth (2-3-1), 72 —Last Week: 4

• Last Week: L 2-4 @ Wisconsin (10/13), L 1-3 @ Wisconsin (10/14)

• Coming Week: v Bemidji State (10/19, 10/20)

Duluth is struggling. After taking out Boston College, they have not won a game. With Bemidji State coming to town, they look to get back to their winning ways.

5. Boston College (3-2-0), 68 — Last Week: 5

• Last Week: W 2-1 OT v St. Lawrence (10/11), W 2-1 OTv St. Lawrence (10/12)

• Coming Week: v Merrimack (10/19), v Vermont (10/20)

While there are no style points for the PWR, going to overtime cost the Eagles 0.2 wins for the RPI which could come back to haunt them come March. Boston College will open conference play at home with two should win games.

6. Ohio State (5-1-0), 65 — Last Week: 6

• Last Week: W 4-0 v Minnesota State (10/12), W 2-1 OT v Minnesota State (10/13)

• Coming Week: @ Minnesota (10/19, 10/20)

While they got the WCHA points they need, getting taken to OT by the Mavericks doesn’t look good. This weekend they will travel to Minneapolis to prove they belong on top of the WCHA.

7. Cornell (0-0-0), 42— Last Week: 7

• Last Week: W 6-1 v Toronto Jr Aeros (EX) (10/13), W 5-2 v Buffalo Beauts (EX) (10/14)

• Coming Week: No Games

The Big Red dominated their neighbors to the north. Then, the Ivy League school won handily against the local professional team, though the Beauts rested many of their skaters, scoring five goals on the US and Canadian National Team goalies.

8. Northeastern (2-1-1), 32 — Last Week: 9

• Last Week: L 2-3 v Colgate (10/12), W 5-2 v Colgate (10/13)

• Coming Week: v Maine (10/19), @ New Hampshire (10/20)

Northeastern came out slow on Banner night before coming back and punching the Raiders in the mouth early and often en route to a big win the next day and the title of “Belles of the Ball”. The Huskies will return to conference pair with two tough tests against their northern neighbors.

9. Colgate (3-3-0), 29 — Last Week: 8

• Last Week: W 3-2 @ Northeastern (10/12), L 2-5 @ Northeastern (10/13)

• Coming Week: No Games

Colgate went on the road and got a huge win with PWR considerations but were unable to finish off the sweep. They will get a week off.

10. St. Lawrence (2-3-1), 14 — Last Week: 10

• Last Week: L 1-2 OT @ Boston College (10/11), L 1-2 OT @ Boston College (10/12)

• Coming Week: v Clarkson (10/19), @ Clarkson (10/20)

The Saints were unlucky, having held 1-0 leads in both games only to surrender those leads to eventually lose in OT. Now St. Lawrence will have their non-conference pair against Clarkson.
