SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Beanpot Heroics

AS we all but wrap up the regular season things have fallen into place. It’s playoff time.

This week saw no movement other than Maine dropping out of their tie for tenth. And now it is playoff time as the games start to really gain meaning.

1. Wisconsin (29-3-2), 135 (10) — Last Week: 1

• Last Week: W 4-3 v Minnesota (2/16), W 1-0 v Minnesota (2/17)

• Coming Week: No Games

With the top seed in the WCHA comes a week off while the rest of the top teams get a weekend series.

2. Clarkson (29-4-1), 120 (3) — Last Week: 2

• Last Week: W 4-0 v Dartmouth (2/16), W 3-1 v Harvard (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Yale (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

Two wins means the Golden Knights take the tiebreaker and the top seed. Up next is a Yale team that shouldn’t be too much of a threat.

3. Boston College (28-3-3), 117 (1) — Last Week: 3

• Last Week: W 4-3 OT v Boston University (2/13), W 5-0 @ Maine (2/16) W 3-1 @ Maine (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Vermont (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

With three wins on the week, including denying Boston University their first varsity Beanpot, the Eagles are this week’s Belles of the Ball. This weekend, the Catamounts will come to Chestnut Hill.

4. Colgate (29-4-1), 104 — Last Week: 4

• Last Week: W 3-2 v RPI (2/16), W 6-1 v Union (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Harvard (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

Unluckily they were not able to gain a point on Clarkson, meaning a fall to the second seed. The Crimson, who have had a few nice wins lately, will be traveling to Colgate.

5. Cornell (19-7-3), 78— Last Week: 5

• Last Week: W 5-0 v Union (2/16), W 2-1 v RPI (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Princeton (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

The Big Red took care of business and earned the three seed and the right not to play Clarkson in the semifinals. First up will be Princeton.

6. Ohio State (29-9-4), 64 — Last Week: 6

• Last Week: W 4-0 v Bemidji State (2/16), L 1-2 v Bemidji State (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Minnesota State (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

Another tough weekend for the Buckeyes but with help they locked up the second seed and have a near bye with Mankato, though Ohio State did recently split a weekend against the Mavericks.

7. St. Lawrence (18-10-4), 50 — Last week: 7

• Last Week: L 1-2 v Harvard (2/16), W 5-0 v Dartmouth (2/17)

• Coming Week: v Quinnipiac (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

The Saints fell to Harvard in the last weekend, dropping them to fourth and leaving them to play Quinnipiac.

8. Minnesota (20-10-3), 47 — Last Week: 8

• Last Week: L 3-4 @ Wisconsin (2/16), L 0-1 @ Wisconsin (2/17)

• Coming Week: v St. Cloud State (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

And that’s a regular season wrap for a Golden Gophers team that has only a single positive result against a Top-12 team, a tie against Ohio State. A Huskies team that won a shootout against the Gophers last weekend will now travel to Minneapolis.

9. Robert Morris (18-7-4), 26 —Last Week: 9

• Last Week: L 0-2 @ Mercyhurst (2/16), W 3-2 @ Mercyhurst (2/17)

• Coming Week: @ Syracuse (2/23, 2/24)

The Colonials need one more point to look up the top seed, but they’re in trouble- they’ll travel to Syracuse for a pair with two teams still in the hunt.

10. Providence (16-11-7), 17 — Last Week: T-10

• Last Week: W 1-0v Northeastern (2/18)

• Coming Week: v Connecticut (2/23, 2/24, 2/25 (If Necessary))

Despite being outshot 2-1 by Northeastern, the Friars netted the only goal to end their regular season with a win. As the second seed in Hockey East, they will play Connecticut.
