SB Nation’s NCAA Poll: Creeping Ivy

The ECAC is being led by the Ivy League this season and they are making their marks in our poll.

The ECAC has displaced all but one Hockey East team, though there are three of them waiting in the wings for the slightest stumble.

1. Wisconsin (13-0-1), 80 (8) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ St. Thomas (11/20, 11/21)/

While the Badgers are technically in action again this weekend should bring a pair of routs in their first trip to St. Thomas.

2. Ohio State (10-2-0), 82 — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Minnesota State (11/19, 11/20)/

After the time off, it should be an easy welcome back as the Mavericks travel to Columbus.

3. Minnesota (7-3-0), 62 — Last poll: 3

  • Last week: W 10-0 v RIT (11/12), W 7-1 v RIT (11/13)
  • Coming Week: @ St. Cloud State (11/19, 11/20)/

The Gophers decided they needed to play an ‘Eastern’ team and figured they would go with the easiest one they could find. They decimated the Tigers and now travel to play the Huskies for another pair.

4. Minnesota-Duluth (4-4-0), 51 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Bemidji State (11/19, 11/20)/

The Bulldogs are finally back in action and are traveling to Bemidji in what should be a pair of games boosting their record.

5. Northeastern (8-2-1), 48 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: W 3-0 @ Vermont (11/12), W 3-1 @ Vermont (11/13)
  • Coming Week: v New Hampshire (11/19) v Connecticut (11/20)/

The Huskies continue to struggle to play full 60 minute contests. Their trip up to Vermont needed two solid if unimpressive wins. Now they host two different conference foes as they look to hold onto their conference lead.

6. Quinnipiac (11-1-2), 33 — Last poll: 8

  • Last week: W 3-1 @ Princeton (11/12), L 0-1 v Princeton (11/13)
  • Coming Week: @ Cornell (11/19), @ Colgate (11/20)/

Whenever Quinnipiac seems to have a matchup that could solidify our thoughts on them they seem to inevitably split. This weekend brings them on the road against two good teams.

7. Princeton (5-1-0), 30 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: L 1-3 v Quinnipiac (11/12), W 1-0 @ Quinnipiac (11/13)
  • Coming Week: @ Colgate (11/19), @ Cornell (11/20)/

The Tigers loss ended the last perfect season, thankfully for them they were able to rebound the next day. They too will travel to central New York for a tough pair.

8. Colgate (13-3-0), 29 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: W 4-3 OT @ RPI (11/12), W 7-1 @ Union (11/13)
  • Coming Week: v Princeton (11/19), v Quinnipiac (11/20)/

A disappointing OT win over RPI led to a dominant one over Union. Now they play host to Quinnipiac and Princeton in what has become a pair of must win games.

9. Yale (6-2-0), 13 — Last poll: ARV

  • Last week: W 3-1 v Harvard (11/12), W 8-3 v Dartmouth (11/13)
  • Coming Week: @ St. Lawrence (11/19), @ Clarkson (11/20)/

Welcome to the poll Yale. Their weekend sweep including a big one over their traditional rival Harvard moved them all the way up into the poll and made them this week’s ‘Belle’s of the Ball.’ There will be no rest for them as they head up to Northern NY.

10. Harvard (6-3-0), 8 — Last poll: ARV

  • Last week: L 1-3 @ Yale (11/12), W 5-2 @ Brown (11/13)
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Despite their loss the Crimson return to the poll, mostly based on the lackluster performances by their closest rivals. They will take a weekend off before Thanksgiving.
