SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Hello Huskies

A week short on games was not short on intrigue.

Despite most of the top teams being idle we had a number of shifting positions and even a new team in the poll.  This next week will feature all of our teams back in action.

1. Wisconsin (11-1-0), 130 (13)— Last Week: 1

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: v Bemidji State (11/16, 11/17)

After a week off the Bader get to play a suddenly hot upset minded Bemidji team.

2. Minnesota (9-2-1), 114— Last Week: 2

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: @ St. Cloud State (11/17), v St. Cloud State (11/18)

The Gophers were also idle. Next up is St. Cloud State. They handled them well earlier in the season but the Huskies have been playing every game closes of late. Of note this is also an extremely rare home-and-home in WCHA play.

3. Clarkson (9-1-0), 105 — Last Week: 3

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: @ Brown (11/16), @ Yale (11/17)

The Golden Knights have two games they should easily win, but they can take neither lightly if previous results from this season are any indication.

4. Northeastern (10-1-1), 83 — Last Week: 6

• Last Week: W 3-0 @ New Hampshire (11/9), W 5-3 v New Hampshire (11/10)

• Coming Week: @ Maine (11/16, 11/17)

The Huskies are still on fire as they get yet another weekend seep en route to being the “Belles of the Ball” again this week.  The weekend started off  with another Aerin Frankel shutout, she has allowed one (fluky) goal on 124 shots in conference play.  The second game relied on a furious offensive effort in the third.  The Huskies will now trek up to Orono for a pair.

5. Boston College (8-3-0), 77 — Last Week: 5

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: @ Connecticut (11/16), v Connecticut (11/17)

The Eagles didn’t have anymore games without their defense thankfully for them and now get to play UConn who hasn’t quite played up to expectations this season.

6. Minnesota Duluth (5-4-1), 59 —Last Week: 7

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: @ Ohio State (11/16, 11/17)

Despite not playing a game in two weeks the Bulldogs move up in the poll due to the failures of their next opponent, if they want to hold onto their spot they need to take some points in Columbus.

7. Ohio State (9-5-0), 47 — Last Week: 4

• Last Week: L 1-2 @ Bemidji State (11/9), L 2-4 @ Bemidji State (11/10)

• Coming Week: v Minnesota-Duluth (11/16, 11/17)

The Buckeyes wish they could’ve taken a week off too as they were swept by unranked Bemidji, which sent them tumbling in the poll.  Now they play host to a Duluth team that is desperate for a win.

8. St. Lawrence (6-5-1), 35 — Last Week: 9

• Last Week: No Games

• Coming Week: @ Yale (11/16), @ Brown (11/17)

The Saints were also idle but now resume ECAC play mirroring Clarkson on the road with a pair of trap games.

9. Cornell (4-1-2), 25— Last Week: 8

• Last Week: T 4-4 OT @ Mercyhurst (11/10), T 0-0 OT @ Mercyhurst (11/11)

• Coming Week: @ Quinnipiac (11/16), @ Princeton (11/17)

Cornell is struggling ever since they took on mighty Brown. A pair of ties in Erie were not what they hoped for.  Next up is a pair of road tests in conference.

10. Providence (8-2-0), 15 — Last Week: NR

• Last Week: W 3-1 v Maine (11/9), W 2-0 @ Vermont (11/11)

• Coming Week: v Merrimack (11/16), @ Merrimack

The Friars played well enough to win and took away their upcoming opponents spot in the poll. These next games against Merrimack will answer a lot of questions for Hockey East and this poll.
