Rebecca Vint agrees in principle to join Buffalo Beauts

Rebecca Vint is now the second member of the the CWHL’s Markham (formerly Brampton) Thunder to leave for the NWHL take her talents to Buffalo. She follows Sarah Edney south of the border to join the defending Isobel Cup Champions. Although it is important to note that Vint has only “agreed in principle” to join Buffalo.

“I’m ready to experience pro hockey on the other side of the border, and could not be more proud to be part of the Beauts and the NWHL,” Vint shared in the league’s press release. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to help my new teammates in Buffalo defend the Isobel Cup. I know Sarah Edney and I are fully committed to giving the Beauts our best.”

Vint was a difference-maker for the Thunder. She had 11 primary points at even strength last season and was fourth among Thunder forwards in scoring. In the last two seasons Vint has scored 27 goals. Her departure leaves Markham with another big hole to fill next season.

But Markham’s loss is Buffalo’s gain. Vint’s size and scoring touch will likely feature on the Beauts scoring line which has lost a lot of key pieces this offseason. Buffalo needed to find some established goal scoring to replace the contributions of players like Shiann Darkangelo, Kelley Steadman and Emily Janiga. Vint checks off a lot of boxes for the Beauts. She knows how to get pucks on net and generate offense.

With Edney and Vint now on the projected roster for 2017-18 the Beauts have 23 of a possible 25 players. Will we see another former CWHL player follow in their footsteps? Or will Buffalo leave roster spots open for potential returning Olympians? We will soon find out.
