PHF Goals of Week: March. 5-6

Records broken and OT goals shot.

This weekend, the Riveters hosted the Pride in a split series and the Whale headed to Minnesota to sweep another weekend and inch closer to first place. With just two weekends left in the regular season, all of these games were important in solidifying the standings.

Taylor Wenczkowski opened the weekend scoring on Saturday with this goal against the Riveters. Boston ultimately tacked on another one, and the game ended 2-0, giving Katie Burt the shutout.

The Whale dominated the rest of the day. Kaycie Anderson started it off with this insane, backwards goal to make it 2-0.

Lexie Laing gave Minnesota a fighting shot with this power play goal, but there would be no more goals after this one and the game ended 4-2 with the Whale taking the win.

On Sunday, the Whale showed up yet again. More specifically, Kennedy Marchment and Taylor Girard connecting for a handful of goals, but this one on Sunday made history. With the assist on the goal, Marchment became the all-time single season points record for the Whale. Oh, and they got the win too. No big deal.

The Riveters made themselves the star of the show for the rest of the weekend. Beginning with Rebecca Russo to break the tie mid-game on Sunday. She made getting passed Burt look easy with this end-to-end shot. No, she was not kidding.

Then, of course, captain Madison Packer brought it home in overtime to get the win and split the series. The final score was 3-2, and the Riveters now sit in fourth place overall, just 10 points behind the Pride.

While that was it for this weekend, I’d be remiss if I didn’t call back to last weekend and shoutout a memorable goal that I didn’t get to highlight. Toronto Six, Saroya Tinker, scored her first PHF goal. Yeah, her first...even though it totally doesn’t feel like it. Later in the week, she signed a shoe deal with Nike. Once again, no big deal at all.

The race for the playoffs is upon us, and all six teams will be back in action next weekend, starting with Boston and Toronto on Saturday, March 12 at 2:00pm EST.
