The Ice Garden got the chance to speak with Callie Shanahan, a 2025 PWHL draft prospect and goaltender out of Boston University. We chatted about everything from what she’s excited about in the PWHL to her music taste.

If you want to know her thoughts on playing pro, her on-ice mantra, and more, you can find the first part of our conversation over at The IX Newsletter for their exclusive Hockey Friday, in partnership with TIG.

The following interview has been lightly edited for clarity.

The Ice Garden: What is your personal hype song before a game or to get in the right mindset?

Callie Shanahan: That’s a good question, let me look at my playlist real quick because it's been a couple months since we've had games. Okay, I'm a huge Drake fan. I love to listen to Drake before games, like he pumps me up. So I would say “Push Ups” by Drake. He gets me fired up for sure. Honestly, anything by Drake gets fired up.

TIG: Solid. What’s the first thing you would want to do in each of the PWHL cities (Boston, New York, Minneapolis, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Seattle, Vancouver)?

CS: Ooh. Okay, Boston's an easy one because I went to school at BU, so first thing I would do is go back to my coaches and team and say hi to all my friends, because that's like my second home. I love that place.

New York, I would probably… I've only been like actually in New York City one time, and I know they [the New York Sirens] play a little bit outside the city. But first thing I would do is go and explore the city and like, see the Statue of Liberty, since I’ve never seen that and I think that's so cool. I love cities, so that would be so sick.

Toronto, I would go to the Hockey Hall of Fame for sure. I've been one time, but only when I was like eight years old, and I barely remember it. So that would be sick to go see again.

Montreal, I've been there one time, but I didn't get to explore much. So I think exploring the city more, or going to a Habs game would be pretty sick. And I have a couple of friends, actually, who live in Montreal, so visiting them.

For Ottawa… The draft is actually going to be my first time going there, I'll be in person at the draft. Honestly, don't know much about Ottawa, don’t know a lot about Canada, so probably just explore, maybe go see the Capitol building or maybe go see a Senators game, that would be pretty sick.

And then Minnesota, I've been there a lot, actually. A couple of my really good, close friends on my team at BU are from Minnesota. So I would go see them or go to a Wild game, because those games are sick, I've heard.

And then Seattle and Vancouver. I’ve never been to Vancouver. I would love to hike, I would love to go see the mountains and stuff. That is my thing, I love anything outdoorsy.

And Seattle. Honestly, I don't know too much about the city. I know it's right on the water, but I've never been to that side of the country, honestly. So I would probably just go explore and go to the water. Like I said, I love to be outside, so yeah, go on hikes and just explore.
