Pride re-sign Jillian Dempsey and Mary Parker
Don’t count the Boston Pride out just yet.
Today, on the first day of unrestricted free agency, the Pride agreed to terms with Mary Parker and Jillian Dempsey. Both players should address the Pride’s desperate need for offense next season.
Dempsey had 14 points, 10 of which were primary, last season for Boston. She had the same amount of points in the NWHL’s inaugural season, making her the most productive player that the Pride have signed for its 2017-18 roster.
Dempsey turns 27-years-old in January. She has been a star in the NCAA, CWHL and NWHL. Her experience will be invaluable to what will likely be a young Pride team next season. It will be her third year with the Pride.
ICYMI: Jillian Dempsey is the second player from the Pride to re-sign for next season. Earned a 2.5k raise from 10.5k to 13k. #NWHL— Hannah Bevis (@Hannah_Bevis1) April 26, 2016
Parker appeared in three games (two of which were in the playoffs) with the Pride this year after graduating from Boston University. She played the first four years of her college career with Harvard before a 45 point senior season with the Terriers.
At 5-foot-9 Parker brings a lot of size and strength to the Pride’s attack. She will likely have a bigger role in Boston’s offense next season after failing to make a mark on the box score this year.
The Pride now have seven skaters signed for next season, which is more than any other NWHL team.
