Riveters re-sign D’Oench, Dosdall and Gruschow

The New York Riveters just re-signed three key players from its 2016-17 roster: Kiira Dosdall, Miye D’Oench and Alexa Gruschow.

Thanks to today’s signings the Riveters currently have 10 players under contract. That gives them a clear edge over the NWHL’s other three teams. The Riveters now have six forwards signed, two defenders signed and two goaltenders under contract.

Dosdall was one of the team’s alternate captains last season, she began wearing a letter for the Riveters after Morgan Fritz-Ward retired halfway through the season.

The 2017-18 season will be Dosdall’s third in the NWHL. She and Ashley Johnston have proven to be the foundation of the Riveters defense. A versatile and physical defender, Dosdall has 11 points through her first two NWHL seasons. She was the oldest player on the Riveters last season.

The D’Oench and Gruschow signings are great news for the Riveters offense.

D’Oench became a quick fan favorite for a reason. She had 11 primary points as a rookie last season and trailed only Amanda Kessel and Rebecca Russo for points among Riveters rookies. Twelve of D’Oench 14 points came at even strength and she led the team in shots.

Gruschow centered New York’s productive second line with Russo and Madison Packer on her wings. The former RPI captain was unheralded as an NWHL rookie but proved to be invaluable to the Riveters. Gruschow’s teammates are quick to compliment her strength and work ethic. Her two-way game will be welcomed back to next season’s Riveters roster.
