Marie-Philip Poulin has been named IIHF Female Player of the Year, the IIHF announced on Wednesday, "defying the odds" as the only non-American among six finalists for the award.

This is Poulin's third year as a finalist for the award, but her first time winning. She garnered 33.1% of the votes from media members. She led the 2025 Women's World Championship in scoring with 12 points in 7 games, and was named Tournament MVP and Best Forward. In PWHL play with the Montreal Victoire, she led the league in goals with 19 and was named a finalist for the Billie Jean King MVP award.

Poulin is the only player to be named a finalist for Player of the Year in all three years of the award's existence. According to the IIHF, she will be "presented her trophy at a date and location to be determined."

This award marks yet another addition to Poulin's already towering resume, which includes three Olympic gold medals (including the game-winning goals in those games, earning her the nickname Captain Clutch), four World Championship gold medals, two Clarkson Cups with Les Canadiennes de Montreal in the CWHL, and a host of other accolades.

Poulin was followed in voting for the award by USA goaltender Gwyneth Philips with 22.3% of the vote and USA forward & captain Hilary Knight with 20.2%. Other finalists were Caroline Harvey, Aerin Frankel, and Laila Edwards. Ronja Savolainen was not named a finalist, but received a write-in vote for the award.
