Stalder makes history, records 80th point of season

Yesterday, Brynäs superstar Lara Stalder set an SDHL record by recording her 80th point of the season — a primary assist on a power-play goal by Josefin Bouveng in the first period. Brynäs eventually lost the game 3-2 to Djurgården.

Stalder is the first player in SDHL history to hit the 80-point mark, eclipsing the previous record of 79 points held by Michelle Karvinen who made history by scoring 79 in 36 games in 2015-16 withLuleå. Stalder is also the first player to earn 50 assists in a single season of SDHL hockey and the second player — after Karvinen — to earn at least 70 points in two SDHL seasons. The only other player to reach 70 in a season is Norwegian star Andrea Dalen, who had 73 points with Djurgården in 2015-16.

Remarkably, 67 of Stalder’s 80 points have been recorded at even strength — she has 11 points on the power play and one shorthanded assist. That means she had points on 49.62 percent of Brynäs’ even-strength offense. That number is absolutely staggering and is a big reason why Stalder is the frontrunner to earn MVP honors this year.

This is Stalder’s fourth season in the SDHL and second season with Brynäs. She leads the league in scoring by a margin of 14 points. She has one more regular season game — scheduled on Friday, Feb. 26th against Leksand — to build on her single-season record before the postseason begins in Sweden.
