Harrison Browne Makes History, Scores In NWHL Season Opener
Browne scores Buffalo’s first goal of season
Buffalo Beauts forward Harrison Browne made history when he scored his first goal of 2016-2017 tonight in the Buffalo Beauts’ home opener against the Boston Pride, marking the first time an out transgender athlete has recorded a point in a professional league in the U.S. The unassisted goal came at 12:59 of the 3rd period.

The goal was especially meaningful because Browne, 23, made history this morning when he came out as a transgender man, becoming the first openly transgender athlete in North American professional sports. The support from the NWHL was immediate and heartfelt; commissioner Dani Rylan emphasized the league’s commitment to inclusiveness, Beauts GM Ric Seiling reiterated the team’s unity and support for each other, and the Beauts’ Twitter posted, “We’ve got your back, Brownie.”
The home crowd at Harbor Center roared when Browne was introduced, then turned positively electric when he scored. Browne’s arms went up in celebration and he radiated nothing but joy. It was a wonderful moment.
