Goal by Goal: Game 1 of the Calgary Secret Dream Gap Tour

Team Sonnet struck early, but Team Bauer takes the 3-2 victory

The Canadian leg of the Secret Dream Gap Tour opened with a bang, as Montréal’s Team Bauer took home a 3-2 victory over Toronto’s Team Sonnet. While the opening frames were on the slower side, the third period was anything but.

TEAM SONNET GOAL

Ella Shelton (Nicole Kosta, Loren Gabel) at 4-on-4 gets her first professional point at 12:50 of the first

Team Sonnet: 1 - Team Bauer: 0

Ella Shelton roofs one past Ann-Renée Desbiens to open the scoring midway into the first period. She should get bonus points for the celly game.

TEAM BAUER GOAL

Erin Ambrose (Jessie Eldridge, Marie-Philip Poulin) on the powerplay at 6:11 of the second period

Team Sonnet: 1 - Team Bauer: 1

You absolutely cannot discount the effort by Marie-Philip Poulin to keep that puck in the zone, and she — and Ambrose and Eldridge — are rewarded with their first points of the Canadian Secret Dream Gap Tour.

TEAM BAUER GOAL

Rebecca Leslie (Ann-Sophie Bettez, Alexandra Labelle) sends it through traffic at 9:47 of the third period.

Team Sonnet: 1 - Team Bauer: 2

Right off the face-off, Leslie gets the puck and somehow diverts it past a sea of Team Sonnet players and past Shea Tiley.

TEAM BAUER GOAL

Marie-Philip Poulin, shorthanded, roofs it clean over Tiley at 13:23 of the third period.

Team Sonnet: 1 - Team Bauer: 3

There’s no stopping Marie-Philip Poulin on a shorthanded breakaway, though Shelton makes a valiant effort at slowing down the Team Bauer forward.

TEAM SONNET GOAL

Natalie Spooner (Jocelyne Larocque) deflects the puck behind Desbiens at 19:56 of the third period, at 6-on-5.

Team Sonnet: 2 - Team Bauer: 3

Team Sonnet nearly — nearly! — redeemed themselves with a last-ditch goal after pulling Tiley. It was too little too late for the Toronto region, though, as time expired three seconds later.

With a regulation win AND a shorthanded goal, Team Bauer skates away from this meeting with 3 points in the standings for the Canadian Secret Dream Gap Tour.
