The NHL announced today that Canadian Olympians Renata Fast and Rebecca Johnston and US Olympians Brianna Decker and Kendall Coyne-Schofield will participate in the league’s upcoming All-Star weekend in San Jose.
They are currently scheduled to participate in the Fan Fair on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the SAP NHL® All-Star Skills Zone and to sign autographs at 2 p.m. Saturday.
All four are All-Stars in their leagues with Fast, Johnston, and Decker just coming off the CWHL All Star Weekend in Toronto and Coyne-Schofield heading to Nashville on Feb. 9 and 10 for the NWHL’s weekend.
Last season, we saw three US Olympians — Hilary Knight, Amanda Kessel, and Meghan Duggan — participate in the weekend by demonstrating a skill during the Skills Competition. Knight tackled the Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting while Kessel tried out the Gatorade NHL Puck Control Relay and Duggan did the aptly sponsored Dunkin Donut NHL Passing Challenge. Hannah Brandt participated in a pre-skills competition event showcasing the skills.
Other members of Team USA were on hand as well, participating in other activities and signing autographs.
Thus far, no word if Fast, Johnston, Decker, and Coyne-Schofield will be showing off their skills as well, though Coyne-Schofield could definitely give the men a run for their money in the Bridgestone NHL Fastest Skater™. Fast would be a great pick for the SAP NHL Hardest Shot™. It’s a toss up for Decker and Johnston for Enterprise NHL Premier Passer™ or the Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting™, though no one said only one of them had to go for each one.
The Skills Competition portion of the All-Star weekend is on Friday.
UPDATE: According to USA Hockey, the players will be special guests during the All-Star Skills Competition. Goaltender Alex Rigsby will also be at the event in support of the EVERFI Future Goals program. She’ll be on a panel about careers around hockey and about science, technology, and math have impacted the game.
