Chipwich to be Official Ice Cream Sandwich of NWHL

The partnership is the first of the 50/50 revenue split with players

The first new partnership for the NWHL has arrived and its something to scream about. The league announced Chipwich will be the official ice cream sandwich of the league.

Chipwich will sponsor intermission activities, be promoted on social media, as well as other activations, according to the league’s press release.

The partnership with the ice cream sandwich company is the first to be part of the new 50 percent revenue split agreement with the NWHLPA, adding to the players’ salaries.

Financial details were not made public on the partnership.

Previously, NWHLPA Anya Battaglino confirmed that the split was before any league operation costs but minus any production costs. Battaglino used the example of jersey patches as a cost that would come before the split.

Last season, the NWHL partnered with VEDA, who sponsored the Player of the Week award. There were also two team-specific partnerships as TRIA partnered with the Minnesota Whitecaps and Warrior Hockey partnered with the Boston Pride. Dunkin’ has been a league-wide sponsor since the first season, which includes a patch on all players’ jerseys.

At the end of last season, the NWHL stressed how important partnerships are for the league. “It’s imperative that we increase sponsorship sales, locally and nationally,” said Dani Rylan in a league’s release. “It’s a vital part of our business.”
