Riveters to hold 2018-19 home opener at Prudential Center

2017-18 Isobel Cup Championship banner to be unveiled pregame

The NWHL announced on Monday that the Metropolitan Riveters will be holding their home opener at the Prudential Center for the second consecutive year, on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. ET, when they host the Minnesota Whitecaps.

Metropolitan opened their season against the Boston Pride at “The Rock” in Oct. 2017, with the Riveters coming away with a 4-1 victory. An estimated 2,100 fans were in attendance as part of a doubleheader with the New Jersey Devils.

It’s entirely possible that attendance number could inflate this season. New Jersey’s partnership with the Riveters was not announced until Oct. 4th, 2017, allowing fans just over three weeks to purchase tickets.

Now, the Riveters will have more breathing room to promote the event and take advantage of in-arena promotion allowed by the Devils during their five regular-season home games prior to the game.

Plus, the Riveters saw home attendance numbers skyrocket during the Isobel Cup Playoffs, selling out the championship game and drawing hundreds of thousands of additional online viewers.

This is the second game announced to be played in an NHL rink in the 2018-19 season, as the Pegula Sports-owned Buffalo Beauts will host the Whitecaps as part of a doubleheader with the Sabres at KeyBank Center on Dec. 29.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m.
