Highly-touted Boston Fleet draft pick Haley Winn makes her debut on the Top 25 Under 25 list this year, coming in at number 10.

2024-25 Season

Last season was Winn's fourth and final at Clarkson. From the blue line, she led the team in points (46) and assists (32) and also contributed 14 goals. The highlight of the season undoubtedly came in just the second game, when Winn registered seven points - including a hat trick and four assists - in a 9-0 win over Saint Michael's.

Overall, she registered at least a point in 28 of 38 games and had four game-winning goals as well as a whopping 189 shots. It's no surprise that Fleet general manager Danielle Marmer called her a "complete, two-way defender."

She was also named a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award and First Team All-American by the NCAA. In the ECAC, she was named player of the year and defender of the year, also named to the first all-star team.

She captured gold with Team USA at Women's Worlds, scoring three assists in seven games with the national team, and also skated in the Rivalry Series.

Past and Future

After making her way up through the Bishop Kearney hockey program in her hometown, Winn joined Clarkson in 2021. Even then, she was already a highly touted prospect; according to Clarkson (her endgame), she was also recruited by Wisconsin, Colgate, Penn State, Princeton and Quinnipiac. (Wow!)

Across four seasons of NCAA Division I hockey, she appeared in 151 games. She finished her collegiate career as a plus-63 with 131 points, including 94 assists. That's good for second among Clarkson defenders in program history, behind only Erin Ambrose.

Internationally, Winn twice skated for the U18 team and has now appeared in three Women's Worlds with two gold medals. (She also won gold at the U18 level.) As a prospective Olympic player, she participated in USA Hockey's Women's National Festival earlier this summer in Lake Placid.

Winn, a 22-year-old right-shot defender from Rochester, NY, was selected by the Fleet with the second overall pick in the 2025 PWHL draft. She'll make her pro debut later this year after signing a three-year contract with the team earlier this summer.

Fleet GM Marmer noted Winn's high compete and hockey IQ, as well as her flexibility and overall ability to play in all situations as key points of her game.

"When we think about who is going to produce for us, defend against the best players in our league, or run a power play, Haley Winn can be an answer to all those situations," Marmer said.

With her national team experience, Winn has already played with several of her future pro teammates, including Megan Keller and Aerin Frankel. It's expected that she'll play a significant two-way role for the Fleet under the guidance of new head coach Kris Sparre. Boston's defense core includes Keller and Winn, along with newcomers Zoe Boyd and Rylind MacKinnon and returnees Daniela Pejšová and Hadley Hartmetz.
