2024 Worlds coming to Utica, N.Y.

The Worlds will be back in the U.S. next year.

Today the IIHF and USA Hockey announced the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships will be played in Utica, N.Y.

The games for the 10-team tournament will be played at Adirondack Bank Center and Utica University Nexus Center from April 4-14, 2024.

“It’s awesome to have the Women’s Worlds back in our country again,” said Katie Million, director of women’s national team programs for USA Hockey, in USA Hockey’s press release. “I know fans will enjoy the talent they’ll see on the ice and hopefully we’ll be able to celebrate a second straight gold medal on home soil next April.”

Utica is located about an hour's drive from Syracuse University, the closest Division 1 program, and is home to an AHCA DIII team at Utica University. The city is also about equidistant from New York City and Boston at about a four-hour drive from each.

This is the fifth time the US has hosted Worlds. The latest was in 2017 in Plymouth, Michigan, on the heels of the historic boycott by the US National Team. Previously, the US hosted the tournament in Burlington, Vermont (2012, Minneapolis (2001), and Lake Placid, NY (1994).
