PHF Roster Recap: Mid-June

We’re well into the offseason now, and PHF teams are busy building their rosters for 2022-23. Every team except for Boston has announced at least one signing since the last time we checked in.

Boston Pride

The Pride are once again being notoriously tight lipped about who they’ve signed ahead of next season. Don’t be surprised if they wait until they have a full roster to announce and then drop the whole thing at once. All we’ve got in terms of what the Pride are going to look like next season is a handful of rumours and rumblings. The most recent of which is that they might be exploring their options when it comes to goaltending.

Buffalo Beauts

As per usual the Beauts have been signing and announcing players like it’s a race to the roster cap. Since our last roster recap, the Beauts have announced five players and an Assistant coach.

New faces along with some familiar ones make up the Beauts’ recent signings. Cassidy MacPherson and Autumn MacDougall will be back on one year deals and Claudia Kepler returns with a two year contract. The Beauts have also signed Finnish Olympian Emma Nuutinen as well as Austrian Women’s National Team player Antonia Matzka, both to one year contracts.

Jeff State will join head coach Rhea Coad behind the bench as an assistant coach. He will take over from current assistant coach Mark Zarbo as Zarbo moves into a skills coaching role with the team.

Connecticut Whale

Last year’s Whale team won the regular season and were just minutes away from winning the Isobel Cup. Judging by their signings for 2022-23, it looks like they’re gearing up for a do-over.

The Whale had already brought back their two leading goal scorers in Kennedy Marchment and Taylor Girard. On June 3, they announced that Amanda Conway would be returning, rounding out their top trio of offensive firepower.

Abbie Ives has also re-signed for 2022-23 along with Alyssa Wohlfeiler, Tori Howran, and Hannah Bates. The Whale also signed Caitrin Lonergan after a standout NCAA career.

Forward: Kennedy Marchment (2 yrs), Taylor Girard (2 yrs), Emma Vlasic, Amanda Conway, Caitrin Lonergan, Alyssa Wohlfeiler

Metropolitan Riveters

The Riveters have only made two signings since the beginning of June.

Kelly Babstock will be back for another season. The Rivs have also signed former Connecticut Whale defender, Taylor Marchin. Marchin makes the move to New Jersey after spending four years in Connecticut.

Forward: Madison Packer (2 yrs), Kendall Cornine, Amanda Pelkey, Sarah Bujold, Reka Dabasi, Kelly Babstock

Minnesota Whitecaps

There’s not much to recap when it comes to the Whitecaps. They announced a whole bunch of signings at the end of May and then seemed to quiet down.

Since announcing that their top scorer, Jonna Curtis would be re-signing on a one year deal on May 31, there have been no new contracts announced.

Goalie:

Toronto Six

There are three signings that the Six have announced and one that they haven’t but will (... eventually) to talk about.

In terms of new signings, former Toronto Fury (may they rest in peace) Brittany Howard will make the move from the PWHPA to the Six for 2022-23. Lexi Templeman will play for Toronto after finishing her college career at Ohio State off with a championship

Emma Woods will return for a third year with the Six and with the PHF as a whole.

Now onto the signing that they haven’t announced but definitely will. Sources have confirmed that Carly Jackson has signed a contract and will play for the Toronto Six next season. A goalie tandem of Chuli-Jackson should probably make other teams very very worried.
