PHF Goals of Week: March. 12-13

Lots of action leading up to the playoffs!

PHF / Connecticut Whale

There were a lot of great goals this weekend as every team was in action, gearing up for playoffs.

Allie Thunstrom kicked things off with this absolute sniper, putting the Whitecaps up early on the Riveters on Saturday. They ultimately won this game 4-2, which was sorely needed for them heading into the last few weeks of the season.

That wasn’t without a great fight by the Riveters though. Later in the game, on the power play, Rebecca Russo tied it up at 2, giving the Rivs a chance.

In the same day, Boston and Toronto went to overtime at 1-1 and Breanne Wilson-Bennett won it for the first place, Toronto Six team to secure their spot at the top.

In the third game of the day, Kennedy Marchment also scored a power play goal to put the Whale up 4-2, which is how the game would end...and it was an absolutely fire goal, emoji deserved.

The Six and the Pride swapped a ton of goals on Sunday, but this one from Brooke Boquist was a beauty that tied the game. Toronto ultimately won 4-3, sweeping the weekend.

On Sunday, Kristen Barbara scored her first PHF goal to help the Riveters split the weekend and take a late season win. The Riveters sit in fourth place at the end of their regular season, and will play the fifth place Minnesota Whitecaps in the first round of the playoffs despite how next weeks games turn out for the other teams.

It wouldn’t be me if I didn’t throw a good water bottle pop in there, so courtesy of Allie Munroe, here’s the third goal from the Whale in their Sunday matchup. They ended up winning 4-0, sweeping the weekend.

For the second time this week, here’s a goal by Breanne Wilson-Bennett, the tying goal in Sunday’s game that also went to overtime. The power play goal late in the third period was her second of the weekend.

Just a few minutes later, Shiann Darkangelo scored the overtime game winner for the Six. Yes, you read that right. The Six had back to back overtime wins against Boston this weekend. They just love the dramatics, obviously.

Next up, Hanna Beattie made my list for picking up her first goal of the season. She tacked on to a Whale lead, making it 4-0 for the win. With an assist on this, and another in the game, Marchment has tacked onto her points record this season.

Finally, we’re ending it just how we started it, with a goal from Allie Thunstrom. The league leader in goals, got her 18th in the Sunday matchup which the Whitecaps ultimately lost to the Riveters, 4-3.

Next week is the last week of regular season play before all the teams head off to Florida for the postseason. We will see Buffalo and Boston battle it out as well as a long awaited Whale-Six matchup outlining what could be the eventual Isobel Cup Final this year. All of this begins Saturday at 3:00pm EST.
