NWHL announces dates for opening weekend

100 days and counting until there’s a rematch of the 2021 Isobel Cup Final in Boston

We are officially 100 days away from NWHL hockey and we have our dates and times for the opening weekend of the league’s seventh season. The 2021-22 campaign kicks off with five all six teams in action on Nov. 6, 2021. The season continues on Nov. 7 with two more games, giving us a five-game opening weekend.

Let’s do this.

The first game on the docket is an early afternoon showdown between the Whale and the Riveters at the Rivs’ home rink — wherever that may be. With the date and time locked in, it looks like the Rivs know what rink they’ll be calling home next season. When The Ice Garden spoke with general manager Anya Packer at the team’s free agent camp last month, there was some talk of the team returning to the Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, New Jersey. We’ll have to keep our eyes out for that news.

The second game on the schedule for opening day is a re-match of the 2021 Isobel Cup Final. It’s the Whitecaps and the Pride at Warrior Ice Arena. What more do you need to hear? At the moment neither team has anyone signed but we all know there will be plenty of familiar faces on the ice.

NWHL Offseason: Roster Roundup 7/26

About 30 minutes after the puck drops in Boston, the Six and Beauts will open their respective seasons in Buffalo. This will be just the second time that these two teams have met. The Six won the first match 4-2 on Jan. 27 in Lake Placid. Given their geographic proximity, this has the potential to develop into a rivalry worth relishing. Get ready for chapter two.
