Forward Emma Vlasic is back for her third season with the Connecticut Whale, the team announced this morning.

The alternate captain is coming off of a four-point campaign (1 G, 3 A) over the course of four games played with the Whale in Lake Placid and Boston after leading the team in goals (9) during her rookie season.

“We are looking forward to seeing what Emma can do in Season 7,” said head coach of the Whale, Colton Orr, in the release. “She continues to work on her game in the offseason and has emerged into a complete player that can play in all three zones.”

In the NWHL, Vlasic has dominated on the dot, with a .570 faceoff win percentage. She’s also a crucial part of the team’s penalty kill and powerplay units, having potted two goals with the player advantage and registered 20 blocked shots in 2019-20.

“I am excited to be returning to the Whale for next season,” said Vlasic. “Really looking forward to getting back on the ice with my teammates and continuing to work towards our pursuit of the Isobel Cup.”

Prior to her professional debut, Vlasic had suited up for the Yale Bulldogs for four years, where she registered a stat line of 22-23-45 over 113 games played, and was named team captain in her senior season.

While the Whale’s final game of the 2020-21 season — a 7-0 loss in the Isobel Cup Semifinals to the Minnesota Whitecaps — undoubtedly left a bitter taste in the Pod’s mouth, there’s no question that coaches Colton Orr and Laura Brennan are determined to make this coming campaign a much different story.

Vlasic is now the fifth player under contract with the Whale for the 2021-22 season, joining former teammates Alyssa Wohlfeiler and Abbie Ives, along with newcomers Kennedy Marchment and Allie Munroe.
