SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Faltering Finish

We are almost to the end of this season and we are limping to the finish line as more games have been taken off the books.

Another week of cancelled games left us with few great matchups. As a result there was next to no movement as our pollsters stayed true to their beliefs.

1. Wisconsin (11-2-1), 76 (5) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Minnesota-Duluth (2/26, 2/27)/

The Badgers get to choose their opponent for the playoffs. If they get a clean sweep this weekend they will have Duluth again. If they give up a point, or no games are played, they draw Minnesota.

2. Northeastern (17-1-1), 74 (3) — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: W 3-1 @ Vermont (2/19), W 4-1 @ Vermont (2/20)
  • Coming Week: TBD/

Northeastern made their first big road trip of the season to play against a Vermont team that had many people buzzing. The weekend saw the Huskies take care of business with a pair of solid wins.

3. Ohio State (11-5-0), 63 — Last poll: 3

  • Last Week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Ohio State had their remaining games taken off the schedule as they now look to prepare for the WCHA tournament and the NCAAs.

4. Colgate (12-5-1), 54 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: L 2-3 @ St. Lawrence (2/19), W 5-0 v St. Lawrence (2/21)
  • Coming Week: @ Quinnipiac (2/26, 2/27)/

After a disappointing loss to Saint Lawrence, Colgate rebounded in convincing fashion. This weekend they are supposed to play Quinnipiac.

5. Minnesota (11-7-1), 48 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: W 6-1 @ Bemidji State (2/19), W 9-1 @ Bemidji State (2/20)
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Two dominating victories might have allowed the Gophers to avoid playing Wisconsin in the WCHA semifinals. They are idle this weekend and will be watching the scoreboard.

6. Boston College (14-4-0), 38 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: L 2-3 v Boston University (2/19), W 2-0 @ Boston University (2/20)
  • Coming Week: TBD/

After dominating the early game against their rival Terriers, the Eagles packed it in for the third period in a collapse. The next day they were able to salvage a good third to avoid seeing these same Terriers next weekend in the HEA quarterfinals

7. Clarkson (8-6-1), 35 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Clarkson was off for another week after more cancellations. There are no games on the schedule for next week for now.

8. Penn State (15-1-2), 23— Last poll: 9

  • Last week: W 5-0 @ RIT (2/19), W 5-0 @ RIT (2/20)
  • Coming Week: @ Mercyhurst (2/26, 2/27)/

The Nittany Lions wrapped up their first ever CHA regular season title this weekend, making them this weeks ‘Belles of the Ball’ once again. Penn State are the favorites to represent the CHA in the NCAA tournament in Erie, PA.

9. Minnesota-Duluth (10-4-0), 17 — Last poll: 8

  • Last week: W 2-1 v Minnesota State (2/19), vW 4-3 Minnesota State (2/20)
  • Coming Week: v Wisconsin (2/26, 2/27)/

The Bulldogs are barely holding onto their place in this poll after two desperate come from behind victories over Minnesota State. This weekend allows Duluth to determine their destiny. If they can just earn a single point they will get to face off against Ohio State, but if they lose both games in regulation they will have to face off again Wisconsin again.

10. Providence (10-6-1), 7 — Last poll: 10

  • Coming Week: TBD/

No games for Providence last week but they are slated to take on a Boston University team that has shown upset potential in the HEA quarters.
