SB Nation’s NCAA Poll: Unchanging Craziness

A few more teams wrapped up play for the semester but we will get a couple more series before everyone is off until the new year.

Minnesota Athletics

We have one more set of games before we take a few weeks off. Last weekend brought some major surprises but we had little actual movement in our rankings, though margins have shrunk.

1. Wisconsin (15-1-12), 89 (8) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: L 2-3 v Minnesota (12/3), T 2-2 OT (SOL 2-3) v Minnesota (12/4)
  • Coming Week: @ Bemidji State (12/10, 12/11)

While the Badgers still sit atop our poll this weekend their position is a little more tenuous after a rough weekend against their rival. This weekend sends them to Bemidji where they must sweep or face dire PWR considerations.

2. Ohio State (15-3-0), 76 — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: L 2-5 @ Minnesota Duluth (12/3), W 6-2 @ Minnesota Duluth (12/4)
  • Coming Week: No Games

The Buckeyes split the weekend win two blowout games. They will now head into the break.

3. Minnesota (13-4-1), 74 — Last poll: 3

  • Last week: W 3-2 @ Wisconsin (12/3), T 2-2 OT (SOW 3-2) @ Wisconsin (12/4)
  • Coming Week: v Minnesota-Duluth (12/10, 12/11)

While they remain unmoved from this position the Gophers are moving up in many voters ballots. Minnesota hopes taking five of six points off previously unanimous #1 Wisconsin, which made them this week’s ‘Belle’s of the Ball,’ will be a launching point for the remainder of the season.

4. Northeastern (16-2-1), 65 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: W 4-2 v Cornell (12/4), W 3-1 v Cornell (12/5)
  • Coming Week: No Games

Northeastern got two wins over a Cornell team they had not beaten in nearly 20 years. The Huskies were supposed to travel to Switzerland for the World University Games, but they were recently cancelled.

5. Quinnipiac (15-1-2), 53 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games

Wile the Bobcats are idle they will be getting ready for their New Year’s trip to take on Wisconsin.

6. Colgate (15-4-1), 42 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games

Colgate has wrapped up play for the semester.

7. Minnesota-Duluth (8-6-0), 39 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: W 5-2 v Ohio State (12/3), L 2-6 v Ohio State (12/4)
  • Coming Week: @ Minnesota (12/10, 12/11)

Duluth got a split against Ohio State that was not expected, now they travel to Minneapolis to close out their season series against Minnesota.

8. Yale (9-3-1), 27 — Last poll: 8

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Boston University (12/8)

Yale will sneak one more game in before the holiday season when they host Boston University.

9. Harvard (9-3-0), 14 — Last poll: ARV

  • Last week: W 5-0 v Union (12/3), W 4-3 OT v Rensselaer (12/4)
  • Coming Week: No Games

The Crimson rejoin the top-10 this week after two ECAC wins.

10. Clarkson (15-2-3), 10 — Last poll: T-9

  • Last week: T 1-1 OT v St. Lawrence (12/2), W 1-0 @ St. Lawrence (12/4)
  • Coming Week: No Games

Clarkson holds onto their spot in the rankings despite the tie at home against their travel partner.
