Kim St-Pierre named to Hockey Hall of Fame

She is the first female goaltender to be named to the Hall.

Kim St-Pierre, a Canadian goaltender, was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame today as part of the Class of 2020.

She is the first female goaltender to be named to the Hall, and the 8th woman.

St-Pierre’s trophy case is packed full with three Olympic golds, five Worlds golds, and four Worlds silvers with Team Canada and a Clarkson Cup the Montréal Stars.

In her Olympic debut in 2002 in Salt Lake City, she had a .936 save percentage for the four games she played and a 1.25 goals against average. There she was named best goaltender of the tournament and to the All-Star Team. She was twice named the Best Goaltenders at the World Championships. St-Pierre the record holder for Team Canada for most appearances in net at 89 and most wins at 64.

In the CWHL, she was a three-time Goaltender of the Year, winning the first iteration of the award in 2008, then again in 2009, and a final time in 2011. Her career goals against average was 2.01 with nine shutouts.

In college, St-Pierre became the first woman in CIS history to win a men’s regular season game while at McGill University.

St-Pierre will join Hayley Wickenheiser (2019), Jayna Hefford (2018), Danielle Goyette (2017), Angela Ruggiero (2015), Geraldine Heaney (2013), Cammi Granato (2010), and Angela James (2010) as the only females in the Hall.
