Today, the NWHL announced the first player to re-sign for the 2020-21 season: Kendall Cornine. The RIT alumna will return to the Metropolitan Riveters after a standout rookie campaign.

Cornine earned herself the nickname “Score-nine” as she racked up 13 goals and averaged a point per game. She was tied for second on the Riveters in goals scored and was third in points.

The New Jersey native was an All Star in her rookie season, playing for Team Packer. She competed in the relay race in the Skills Competition.

“This year was by far my favorite year of hockey,” said Cornine in the league’s release. “I couldn’t have asked for better teammates, coaches, and staff. The NWHL has given me an opportunity to fall back in love with the game and fulfill my dream of playing professional hockey. Coming back to the Rivs next season is a decision I didn’t need to think twice about, and I look forward to continuing my future as a Riveter.”

Cornine was the sixth overall draft pick in the 2018 Draft. She is RIT’s all-time leading scorer with 64 points (38-26-64) in 140 games.
