SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Plentiful Postponements

We all knew this season was going to be a weird one and it is living up to expectations.

This week we saw another team join the season as Boston University finally made their debut with a pair of games in New Hampshire. Meanwhile, some highly anticipated matchups were cancelled and some teams lost key players to COVID protocols.

1. Northeastern (0-0-0), 98 (8) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Boston College (12/11), v Boston College (12/13)/

Northeastern decided to shorten the halt last week and have BC on their schedule though COVID concerns on Chestnut Hill have the fate of these games up in the air.

2. Wisconsin (1-1-0), 91 (2) — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Minnesota-Duluth (12/11, 12/12)/

After a frustrating COVID situation cancelled their games against Minnesota, Duluth will hopefully be coming to Madison next weekend.

3. Ohio State (2-2-0), 77 — Last poll: 3

  • Last Week: No Games
  • Coming Week: No Games/

Originally they were slated to play Minnesota but those games have been taken off the schedule for a bye week for the Buckeyes.

4. Minnesota (3-1-0), 73 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Minnesota State (12/10, v Minnesota State (12/11)/

After having their weekend against Wisconsin and their upcoming games against Ohio State postponed the Gophers will now play a home-and-home against Mankato.

5. Colgate (4-1-1), 50 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: L 2-3 v Clarkson (11/30), W 3-2 v Clarkson (12/3), T 2-2 OT @ Clarkson (12/5)
  • Coming Week: No Games/

The Raiders had three games against Clarkson and got three different results. This gives them a series edge of 2-1-1 over the Golden Knights and they have no other games on their schedule at this time.

6. Minnesota-Duluth (4-2-0), 47 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: W 4-0 v St. Cloud State (12/4), W 5-1 v St. Cloud State (12/5)
  • Coming Week: @ Wisconsin (12/11, 12/12)/

A homestead against St. Cloud yielded two easy four goal victories. Their upcoming trip to Madison will likely not be as kind.

7. Clarkson (1-2-1), 35 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: W 3-2 @ Colgate (11/30), L 2-3 @ Colgate (12/3), T 2-2 OT v Colgate (12/5)
  • Coming Week: No Games/

An even split of this week’s games leave Clarkson with some questions that will have to be answered at an unknown date as their schedule is empty for now.

8. Boston College (4-2-0), 28 — Last poll: 10

  • Last week: W 5-3 @ Connecticut (12/4), W 3-1 v Connecticut (12/5)
  • Coming Week: v Northeastern (12/11), @ Northeastern (12/13)/

This weekend saw the Eagles down a few players but that didn’t hurt them against the Connecticut version of the Huskies, making them this week’s ‘Belles of the Ball.’ Next week they are supposed to take on the Northeastern version that should be a much tougher test.

9. Providence (5-0-1), 27 — Last poll: 9

  • Last week: W 2-0 v Holy Cross (12/4), W 4-1 @ Holy Cross (12/5)
  • Coming Week:@ Connecticut (12/11), v Connecticut (12/12)/

For some reason it would appear that their wins against Holy Cross hurt them more than the two wins over the team ahead of them last week helped them. They will take on UConn for a second time next weekend.

10. Boston University (1-1-0), 17— Last poll: 8

  • Last week: W 2-1 @ New Hampshire (12/4), L 3-4 @ New Hampshire (12/5)
  • Coming Week: No Games/

A rough start for the Terriers sees them slip a bit in the poll. A narrow one goal victory on night one followed by a loss with the same margin against a UNH team that has not quite clicked yes was not a good look in the first two games.
