Dam Good: Amanda Johansson out-duels Lindsey Post

On Sunday, 18-year-old Leskand goaltender Amanda Johansson put on a show to earn her team a shootout victory over SDE.

Johansson and SDE goaltender Lindsey Post were both perfect through the first 50 minutes of the game until Leksand finally broke through on the power play thanks to a big goal by Hanna Sköld. Johansson and the defense in front of her fought valiantly to defend that lead, but back-to-back penalties in the final five minutes proved to be costly.

With just 17 seconds left in regulation Johansson’s shutout was spoiled by Julie Zwarthoed, who tied the game up for SDE on the power play. It would be easy to understand if Johansson’s focus was rattled after she watched her shutout slip away with just seconds left on the clock, but she stayed focused, stopping all five shots she faced in overtime to force the shootout.

In the shootout Johansson stopped all comers until her teammate Ella Albinson finally beat Post. Johansson finished the game with 30 saves, three stops in the shootout, and the all-important win. It was Johansson’s first victory of the 2020-21 season. Her save percentage jumped from .873 to .891 thanks as a result of the shutout.

This is Johansson’s first season with Leksand. She made her SDHL debut with AIK in 2017-18 and represented Sweden at the 2019 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship.

Three Crowns

Here are three performances worthy of hardware from the last week of SDHL action.

1. Josefine Jakobsen scored both of Djurgården’s goals in their 2-1 victory over MODO. Jakobsen is running away with the scoring lead on Djurgården. She now has 14 points — six goals and nine assists — in 13 games. Three of her goals have been game-winners and she also leads the club in shots on goal (54).
2. MODO won on Sunday thanks to a stellar 38-save shutout from Klara Peslarova. The Czech goaltender made 29 saves in the last two periods of MODO’s 1-0 win over Linköping on Sunday to secure her fifth win and second shutout of the young season. Peslarova now has a .940 save percentage to go along with a 5-6-0 record in 2020-21.
3. Thea Johansson, 17, had  two goals and four assists in HV71’s 10-0 obliteration of Göteborg on Saturday. Three of Johansson’s four assists were secondary, but who cares about those details when you have a six point game where you put eight shots on net? Prior to Saturday’s game she had two points through her first 11 games of the 2020-21 campaign. Johansson is now fifth on the team in scoring and has broken her previous single-season scoring record of six points. This is her fifth season with HV71 in the SDHL.
