The final weekend in September officially kicked off the NCAA season as conference play started. Four NWHL teams played exhibitions against college teams, and PWHPA Montreal played an exhibition against a men’s team.

UConn Huskies beat the Connecticut Whale; 4 - 1
UConn: Taylor Wabick (Natalie Snodgrass) [PP], Claire Peterson (Morgan Wabick, Camryn Wong), Danika Pasqua (Viki Harkness, Savannah Bouzide) [PP], Peterson
Whale: Sarah Schwenzfeier (Emma Vlasic)
The Whale were outshot 46 - 16 in a rough exhibition against UConn in Storrs, Conn. Saturday afternoon. They also committed six penalties and gave up two power play goals.
The three goaltenders on their roster - Sonjia Shelly, Brooke Wolejko, and Cassandra Goyette - split the game equally and saw a pretty much equal number of shots.
Not a great first outing for the Whale who were sporting a new look - green jerseys.

Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs tied Minnesota Whitecaps; 2 - 2
Minnesota Duluth: Ryleigh Houston (Sydney Brodt), Anna Klein (Maggie Flaherty, Gabbie Hughes)
Whitecaps: Allie Thunstrom, Audra Richards
The Whitecaps fared a bit better this weekend than the previous exhibition against the University of Minnesota. It was a much closer game, plus it gave the Bulldogs their first look at the new WCHA 3-on-3 overtime format. Neither team scored in the extra time and they skipped the shootout portion.
Metropolitan Riveters beat Long Island University Sharks; 10 - 3
Riveters: Brooke Baker (Mallory Rushton); Rushton (Madison Packer, Kendall Cornine) [PP]; Corinine; Packer (Cailey Hutchison); Cornine (Baker, Packer) [PP]; Rushton (Cornine), Packer (Huchinson); Baker; Baker (Cornine), Brooke Avery
Sharks: Matilda af Bjur, Maxi Bird, Abby Latorella
The Riveters came out rolling against a brand new NCAA team - the Long Island University Sharks who are coached by long time women’s hockey coach Rob Morgan and former NWHL player Sam Faber.
The Riveters had 69 shots on net to the Sharks 19. Madison Packer came out flying, netting four points (2g, 2a). Rookie Brooke Baker scored a hat trick along and with one assist and Kendall Cornine had five points (2g, 5a).
The scoreboard shouldn't speak for LIU tonight who was playing for the first time ever. They treated every goal like a game-winner and did not quit despite being down 7 to a pro team. They also split their goalie responsibilities three ways, just looking for experience.— The Ice Garden (@TheIceGarden) September 29, 2019
Buffalo Beauts beat Brock University; 2 - 1
The Beauts took on USport’s Brock University in an exhibition game. The two Buffalo goals were scored by Corinne Buie (shorthanded) and Iveta Klimášová.
It was a family affair for the Accursi’s as Taylor faced off against her sister, Hunter. The pair took the ceremonial face off.
