Shannon Doyle re-signs with Connecticut Whale

Doyle becomes the first player to sign with the Whale

Less than 12 hours after posting a thought-provoking tweet about the current state of professional women’s hockey, veteran defender Shannon Doyle re-signed with the Connecticut Whale.

Doyle is the first player to sign with an NWHL club this offseason who has chosen not to disclose her salary. She’s also the first player to sign with the Whale and the fourth player to sign a contract since free agency began on May 15.

The Boston University alumna had a career year for the Whale last season which included a trip to the 2019 NWHL All-Star Game in Nashville. She scored three goals and picked up five assists to finish third on the team in scoring. Prior to the 2018-19 season, Doyle had two goals in her first 48 regular season games in the NWHL.

“We are very excited to have Shannon Doyle back for a fifth season with the Connecticut Whale,” Connecticut general manager Bray Ketchum shared in the league’s press release. “She is a leader on this team and one of our top defenders. Her passion for the game is always evident and I know she is going to continue to be a role model on and off the ice.”
