Weekend Update: Nov. 30 - Dec. 1

Three NWHL games, two PWHPA exhibitions (and a partridge in a pear tree)

NWHL

Saturday, Nov. 30

Buffalo Beauts beat the Connecticut Whale; 6-2

Beauts: Erin Gehen (Marie-Jo Pelletier), Cassidy MacPherson (Sara Bustad, Brooke Stacey), Corinne Buie (Iveta Klimasova, Taylor Accursi), Gehen (MacPherson), Kim Brown (Pelletier), Accursi (Pelletier, Becki Bowering)
Whale: Kayla Meneghin (Taylor Marchin, Kendra Broad), Jane Morrisette (Elena Gualtieri, Meneghin)

Ten different Beauts hit the scoresheet Saturday lead by two goals from Erin Gehen and three assists from Pelletier.

The goal of the night - or maybe even season - came from Morrisette who cleanly knocked the puck out of midair.

Boston Pride beat Metropolitan Riveters; 5-2

Pride: Alyssa Wohlfeiler (Mary Parker, Emily Fluke), Parker (Wohlfeiler, Fluke),  Fluke (Mallory Souliotis, Jillian Dempsey), Dempsey (Christina Putigna), McKenna Brand (Dempsey)
Riveters: Kate Leary (Madison Packer), Leary (Anna Keys, Cailey Hutchison)

The Pride came out shaky against a Riveters team that hadn’t seen game action in over a month. They made the first-place team pay early as Kate Leary took the puck off a Pride offensive zone turnover to shake and bake for a slick goal. Defensively, the Riveters mostly kept the Pride out of the middle of the ice - where they have succeeded most this season - for at least the first half of the game. As the game wore on; however, the Riveters were unable to sustain that pressure, and the Pride capitalized on that to stay undefeated.

Sunday, Dec. 1

Metropolitan Riveters beat Connecticut Whale; 2-1

Riveters: Madison Packer (Kate Leary, Cailey Hutchison), Brooke Baker (Kendall Cornine, Rebecca Morse)
Whale: Emma Vlasic (Kayla Meneghin, Jordan Brickner)

Over the whole game, 15 penalties were called with 13 of those coming in the second and third period. Add in the frequent whistles of offsides or icing, and it was tough for either team to get much going in this game. Depsite that, only two goals were scored during a power play - Vlasic scored a power play goal and Baker scored a shorthanded goal. The RIT alumna’s goal was her first in the NWHL and the eventual game winning goal.
