SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Chaotic Conferences

As the winter break fast approaches the back end of the poll has tightened up.

It was not a good week for most teams, but was far worse for some.  All the teams look to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and regroup for the last stretch before the semester ends.

1. Wisconsin (14-1-1), 103 (6) — Last poll: 2

•  Last Week: W 5-3 @ St. Cloud State (11/22), W 6-2 @ St. Cloud State (11/23)

•  Coming Week: v Harvard (11/29), v Boston College (11/30)

After playing a game that was tight on Friday the Badgers took the Huskies to task on Saturday. Now up is a trip down south to Nashville for the Country Classic.

2. Minnesota (13-1-2), 101 (3) — Last poll: 1

•  Last week: T 2-2 OT (L 2-3 2OT) @ Minnesota-Duluth (11/22), W 4-3 @ Minnesota-Duluth (11/23)

•  Coming Week: v Boston College (11/29), v Harvard (11/30)

The Gophers dropped the extra conference point to Duluth and then escaped with the win the next day.  They too will go down to Nashville to take on Boston College and Harvard.

3. Cornell (7-0-1), 86 — Last poll: 3

•  Last week: No Games

•  Coming Week: @ Syracuse (11/26), @ Ohio State (11/29, 11/30)

A weekend off was probably for the best with the chaos everywhere else.  This week they get to head over to Syracuse before a post holiday trip to Columbus.

4. Northeastern (12-2-0), 80 (2) — Last poll: 4

•  Last week: W 3-0 @ Boston College (11/19), W 2-1 v Maine (11/23), L 2-3 OT v Maine (11/24)

•  Coming Week: v Holy Cross (11/29)

The Huskies are asking ‘what if’ today.  After taking down Boston College on the road and taking the first game of the weekend against Maine the Huskies could not complete the sweep.  After Thanksgiving, they play Holy Cross.

5. Princeton (9-2-0), 58 — Last poll: 8

•  Last week: W 2-1 v Clarkson (11/22), W 6-2 v St. Lawrence (11/23)

•  Coming Week: No Games

The Tigers loss to Harvard is looking a bit worse but the win over Clarkson shot Princeton back up the poll and earned them the title of ‘Belles of the Ball’ this week. A week off should be helpful before hosting Cornell in a must win game.

6. Clarkson (10-2-4), 56 — Last poll: 5

•  Last week: L 1-2 @ Princeton (11/22), T 2-2 OT @ Quinnipiac (11/23)

•  Coming Week: v Minnesota State (11/29), v Penn State/ @ Vermont (11/30)

Clarkson had a rough weekend only taking a single conference point. Up next is a trip to Burlington, Vermont for the Windjammer Classic.

7. Ohio State (9-3-4), 46 — Last poll: 7

•  Last week: W 6-2 @ Colgate (11/22), T 1-1 OT @ Colgate (11/23)

•  Coming Week: v Cornell (11/29, 11/30)

After a big win on the road the Buckeyes had to stage a comeback and salvaged a tie. Now the Big Red will come to town after the holiday.

8. Boston College (11-3-1), 35 — Last poll: 6

•  Last week: L 0-3 v Northeastern (11/19), L 1-2 v Connecticut (11/22), W 2-1 @ Connecticut (11/23)

•  Coming Week: v Minnesota (11/29), v Wisconsin (11/30)

The Eagles threw away four points against the two Northeastern and UConn before salvaging one win against the latter. Now they have a little momentum heading to the Nashville showcase which could buoy their tournament hopes.

9. Minnesota-Duluth (7-5-2), 18 — Last poll: 10

•  Last week: T 2-2 OT (W 3-3 2OT) v Minnesota (11/22), L 3-4 v Minnesota (11/23)

•  Coming Week: @ Quinnipiac (11/29), v Connecticut/ Yale (11/30)

Duluth was unlucky to only come away with a tie this weekend but used the tie to rebound in the polls. Up next is the Nutmeg Classic.

10. Harvard (5-2-0), 12 — Last poll: 9

•  Last week: L 2-6 @ Boston University (11/19), L 1-3 v New Hampshire (11/23)

•  Coming Week:  v Wisconsin (11/29), v Minnesota (11/30)

It was a rough week for Harvard on the road and the Crimson were lucky to stay in the rankings. Harvard will round out the Nashville field which should yield some interesting names.
