How to Watch: Oct. 5 - 6

A handy dandy guide with links!

Who’s ready for an action packed weekend of pro hockey in North America?

NWHL

The NWHL drops the puck on their fifth season on Saturday with two games. It’s the first year they’ll be streaming on Twitch. They have two Twitch channels for when games are being played at the same time.

Buffalo Beauts at Connecticut Whale - 2:30 p.m. EDT

This will be our first look a basically brand new Beauts team with only two returning skaters. The Whale also underwent a major overhaul — from their home rink to the jerseys to their players. Two new teams means unpredictable results!

Boston Pride at Metropolitan Riveters - 4 p.m. EDT

The Riveters are looking to rebound after last season. They lost some key players, but a new coach might help mitigate that. The Pride look as strong as ever with one of the strongest blue lines and a solid goaltending tandum.

PWHPA

The PWHPA comes to Hudson, New Hampshire for their second stop on the Dream Gap Tour. The Dunkin’ Women’s Hockey Showcase will be streamed on the organization’s YouTube page, thanks to a partnership with Budweiser.

Team Flanagan v Team Stecklein at 2 p.m. EDT

My biggest hope for this game is to see goaltender Dahm start and faceoff against seven of her former Blades teammates. Heck, give me Dahm vs Rackleff! Team Flanagan definitely has the edge here as there’s larger packs of players who have played together, and likely had the benefit of practicing together as a unit more often.

Team Knight v Team Lamoureux at 5 p.m. EDT

I predict this game will be slightly uneven, not necessarily in the score but the game play. It’s no secret how the Blades players struggled against Les Canadiennes in the CWHL, and I don’t think this will be any different. Where the unevenness will come in is the rest of Team Lamoureux, who have proven to be able to keep up with the type of firepower Team Knight will bring. At first blush, goaltending is basically even with Cavallini vs Mashmeyer/Lacasse. All of that makes this game very hard to predict, which if you know me, I hate doing so I won’t anyway.

Sunday, Oct. 6

Consolation game at 11 a.m. EDT

Championship game at 1 p.m. EDT

We can reasonably assume the losing team from each game will play in the consolation and the winners will go the championship game.
