2019 Women’s Hockey Top 25 Under 25 | The List
Who will top our list this year?
It’s August which means that it’s time for The Ice Garden’s third annual Top 25 Under 25 in women’s hockey!
We say the same thing every year, but it bares repeating: the list was ridiculously hard to pull together. Any player in the world under 25 by August 1 is eligible to be named to our list. That’s a lot of players to consider!
This year, our internal voters — TIG staff and other women’s hockey media — voted for 80 different players. Two players were named on everyone’s ballots with another three making all but one ballot.
The list will look markedly different from last year. Of the 31 players from 2018 (a few ties plus the honorable mentions), nine players were no longer eligible due to aging out, and another seven players weren’t voted back on the list.
Again, we’ll be releasing spots 25 through 11 as grouped posts. Due to a few ties, some of our posts will feature more players than others. Just like last time, the Top-10 will each have their own posts.

Voting Process
First and foremost, I’d like to take a moment to thank the friends of TIG who voted. They are all great women’s hockey reporters. Without them this list would have been incomplete. Thanks to Jared Book of ETOP, Kirsten Whalen of Victory Press, Grant Salzano of BC Interruption, and Nate Wells. The other eight ballots came from TIG staff.
Once our internal voting was finished, we opened up community ballot. The list of eligible players was only those who received three or more votes already, leaving 37 players to choose from. Once the community voting was closed, all of the votes were tallied and a final community list was created. This counted as one internal ballot, and the final tally was made.
Players were given points based on where they were ranked. We added every players point total together and then ranked the totals. The player with the highest total was our No. 1, No. 2 had the second highest total, and so on. After the first 25 were ranked, the five players who received the most votes that finished outside of the Top-25 were designated as our honorable mentions.
