Founding 4 Podcast Episode 38: Minnesota got the Funk

Seriously, Kallison Funk is one heck of a hockey name.

Oh my gosh, the Minnesota Whitecaps signed EVERYONE.

This week Mike and Erica break down all of the signings from the last week of the NWHL offseason and take a look at how the rosters are shaping up. Spoiler alert: the Minnesota Whitecaps have 23 of their 25 roster spots filled... so are they already done? Maaaybe.

The Boston Pride added a veteran defender and now have two goalies under contract with Madison Litchfield re-signed, but is there still room for Brittany Ott? What about Brianna Laing? Also, the Connecticut Whale brought back “Juice” and added another two NCAA D-III alumnae. But the Whale still have a lot of work to do, particularly on the blue line and in the goal crease.

Mike and Erica also sink their teeth into some NWHL news, including another NWHL alumna who will be playing professional hockey in Russia, the location and date of the Champions Cup, and the list of 10 NWHLers who will be at USA Hockey’s Evaluation Camp later this month. We also talk about some of the players who weren’t invited, because let’s be real, how can we not talk about that?

We wrap up this week’s show with a wide-ranging discussion about the growth of the women’s game, inspired by Mike’s article that went up on The Ice Garden on Sep. 5. How is the women’s game growing? Where is it going? Why is it growing? Does the NWHL have a hand in that growth? We cover all of that and more this week on the Founding 4 Podcast.

Women’s Hockey is Growing Strong
