Hilary Knight to return Les Canadiennes

Hilary Knight is returning to the CWHL’s Les Canadiennes de Montreal.
Knight posted a on social media Thursday night about “unfinished business,” along with a photo of her receiving a jersey from Les Canadiennes GM Meg Hewings. She played three total games last season — one regular season and two playoff games, and had no points. Les Canadiennes were swept by the Markham Thunder, the eventual Clarkson Cup champions.
Unlike the single-year contracts found in the NWHL, CWHL contracts are typically two-year deals, with the exception of players on KRS Vanke Rays. However, due to Knight signing so late in the 2018 season post-Olympics, speculation ran wild across the women’s hockey world.
Knight has 62 points in 42 CWHL games. She also won the Clarkson Cup twice — in 2012-13 and 2014-15 with the Boston Blades. In 27 NWHL games, she had 48 total points and won the inaugural Isobel Cup. She is one of the few players in the world to have a Clarkson Cup, Isobel Cup, Olympic gold, and Worlds gold.
Montreal’s offense is shaping up to be downright scary. They added forward Jillian Saulnier in a trade from Calgary with goaltender Geneviève Lacasse and will most likely return more Canadian Olympians such as Marie-Philip Poulin and Mélodie Dauost.
