Haley Skarupa signs with Boston Pride

The gold medalists is returning to the NWHL

Haley Skarupa has returned to the Boston Pride.

Skarupa played five games in her sophomore season with the Pride before she was added to Team USA’s Centralization roster in late November. She was an extremely late addition to the Pride, signing in mid-October during the NWHL’s preseason.

With a relatively young Pride team signed this season, Skarupa’s experience and offensive firepower should provide a big boost for Boston. She was the Pride’s most dangerous and dynamic player prior to joining the national team last season. In her five NWHL games last year she had five points and led the Pride in shots on goal by a wide margin. In her rookie season with the Whale, Skarupa had 22 points in 16 games.

“We’re very happy to have Haley back with the Pride,” Boston head coach Paul Mara shared in the league’s press release, “She’s a great player who will continue to develop and be an essential part of our lineup.”

Skarupa will be the fifth Boston College Eagle alumna to sign with the Pride this season. More importantly, she’s the first 2018 Olympic gold medalist to return to the team. With Skarupa signed the Pride now have eight players inked for the 2018-19 season; four of whom are forwards.

“I’ve been back training and skating this summer and I’m really excited to get the season started with the Pride,” Skarupa shared in the league’s press release. “Earning a spot on the National Team is a lot of hard work, but I am up for the challenge to earn another opportunity. It is the utmost honor to represent your country and I never take it for granted.”
