U18 Series

Game one in the U18 series went to overtime. You’ll be hearing a lot more about these players in the future as all three goal scorers have committed to NCAA Division 1 colleges. Let’s roll the gifs....

Canada’s first goal

Alexie Guay (from Julia Gosling, Anne Cherkowski) at 14:02 in the second period
Canada 1 - USA 0

Remember the name Alexie Guay. The 17 year old is a Boston College commit for 2019-20.

USA’s first goal

Makenna Webster (from Abbey Murphy, Hannah Bilka) at 17:27 in the third.
Canada 1 - USA 1

Makenna Webster was part of the gold medal winning team at U18 Worlds and is a Wisconsin commit for 2020-21.

USA’s second goal (game winning goal)

Casey O’Brien on the power play (from Makenna Webster, Ashley Messier) at 1:17 in overtime
Canada 1 - USA 2

Casey O’Brien won gold at the U18 Worlds and is a Wisconsin commit. She and Webster have been playing together at Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep this season.

U22 Series

The U22 game just had more reason for Badger fans to be happy. Let’s go to the gifs...

USA struck early on a rebound goal by Badger senior defender Mikaela Gardner.

Sophie Shirley (from Daryl Watts) at 13:45 in the first period
Canada 1 - USA 1

Canada answered back with a combo that will haunt USA players and fans for years to come: Sophie Shirley from Daryl Watts. Shirley will enter her first year at Wisconsin after playing in the CWHL last season. Watts is going into her sophomore year at Boston College. Both racked up impressive season as the CWHL Rookie of the Year and Patty Kazmaier Award winner respectively.

USA’s second goal

Taylor Heise (from Britta Curl, Sophia Shaver) at 5:37 in the second period
Canada 1 - USA 2

Taylor is one of the youngest players on the U22 team. She has three U18 Worlds gold medals under her belt, including the most recent Worlds in Russia, and was Ms. Hockey in Minnesota last season. She’ll start her freshman year at Minnesota this season.

USA’s third goal

Taylor Heise (from Sydney Brodt) at 12:36 in the second period
Canada 1 - USA 3

Heise netted her second goal on the night to give the US a two goal lead. Sydney Brodt will wear the C for UMD next season.

USA’s fourth goal (game winning goal, empty net)

Grace Zumwinkle (from Cayla Barnes, Maddie Rooney) at 18:18 in the third period
Canada 1 - USA 4

Grace Zumwinkle sealed the game for the US with an empty net.
