Gold Medalist Sidney Morin stays in SDHL, signs with Linköping

She is the first American-born Olympic gold medalist to play in the SDHL

Team USA defender Sidney Morin will return to the SDHL to join Linköping HC, the club announced Thursday.

Morin, 23, played 21 regular-season games with MODO Hockey last season before being called up to Olympic centralization in November 2017. She had a stellar rookie campaign, finishing second in the league’s defender scoring with 10 goals and 22 assists for a total of 32 points. She played an integral role in MODO’s offensive resurgence and was the team’s highest-scoring defender.

The past year of my life has been nothing short of a whirlwind. Last spring I didn’t make the US Women’s National Team, which lead me to follow my heart and love for the game. I was a little fearful of what would come next but I ended up in Sweden. You don’t have a lot of second chances in life and mine was joining the USWNT in the Olympics, the dream every little girl has. With some of the worlds most talented hockey players, we brought Gold home. It’s not always easy to follow the voice inside your head, but this is where mine took me. This fall I’m returning to Sweden to keep playing the game I love, just like I did last year. I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining Linköping and am excited to embark on this new journey! 🇸🇪
